The daily consumption of fruits and vegetables (FLV) is a healthy practice and reduces the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The introduction of nutrition education projects will help to increase FV consumption. Evaluate the factors that influence the consumption and acquisition of FV by adults and elderly people attending an open market in the South Zone of São Paulo. Methodology: Attendees of an open-air fair located in the south of the city of São Paulo were approached. Attendees who agreed to participate in the research signed the free and informed consent form and answered the socioeconomic and demographic questionnaires and to assess the consumption of FV and the factors that interfere with their acquisition. After answering the questionnaire, the fair's attendees received guidance in an information leaflet about seasonality, an appropriate way to sanitize and store FLV. Results and discussion: Among the variables presented, it was found that the majority of users consume FV twice a day, due to eating habits, choose it due to the appearance of the vegetable and spend between twenty and forty reais on FV. Conclusion: The present study revealed that the daily consumption of FV is below the recommended by the food pyramid, but the good frequency of going to the fair shows the habit of consuming fresh vegetables (which is recommended by the 2014 Food Guide) and this frequency can encourage greater consumption of FLV
