O bem-estar de galinhas de postura: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

Nas últimas décadas, o bem-estar animal emergiu como um componente essencial para uma produção de alimentos humanizada, com uma demanda crescente por alimentos que respeitam o bem-estar animal, levantando questões morais e tecnocientíficas significativas. A avicultura, em particular, será profundamente afetada por questões de bem-estar animal, à medida que a pressão externa impulsiona mudanças na produção de alimentos. Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão bibliográfica, destacando o impacto do bem estar na produção de galinhas de postura, a legislação relacionada e as tecnologias empregadas. A metodologia incluiu uma revisão da literatura científica e análise de estudos de caso para ilustrar a influencia do bem-estar animal na produção de galinhas de postura. O bem-estar animal é compreendido por meio da correlação dos sentimentos como liberdade, felicidade, adaptação e estresse, implicando na compreensão da senciência do animal e na promoção de um estado mental de bem-estar. Neste trabalho, foram considerados os problemas de bem-estar animal relacionados às ações humanas e aqueles relacionados à inadequação de processos ou equipamentos. A redução progressiva do espaço disponível, a ausência de contato com o solo e a limitada interação com outras aves impedem a expressão de comportamentos considerados naturais e saudáveis para a espécie. Portanto, novos sistemas de criação, conhecidos como “alternativos”, estão sendo estudados. Esses sistemas propõem o enriquecimento ambiental da gaiola com poleiros, área para ninho e áreas com lixa para desgaste das unhas. Para atender às exigências do mercado externo e às necessidades do novo tipo de consumidor interno, serão necessários investimentos em pesquisas que garantam a saúde e o bem-estar das aves poedeiras nos novos modelos de instalações.

In recent decades, animal welfare has emerged as an essential component of humane food production, and the growing demand for food products that respect animal welfare raises important moral and technical issues. Poultry farming in particular will be profoundly affected by animal welfare issues as external pressures drive changes in food production. The objective of this work was to conduct a literature review highlighting the impact of animal welfare on the production of laying hens, the relevant legislation and the technologies used. The methodology included a review of scientific literature and analysis of case studies to illustrate the influence of animal welfare on laying hen production. Animal welfare is understood through the correlation of feelings such as freedom, happiness, adaptation and stress, which implies an understanding of animal sentience and the promotion of a state of mental well-being. In this work, animal welfare problems related to human actions and those related to inadequate procedures or equipment have been considered. The progressive reduction of available space, lack of contact with the ground and limited interaction with other hens prevent the expression of behaviors considered natural and healthy for the species. Therefore, new breeding systems, known as "alternatives", are being studied. These systems propose environmental enrichment of the cage with perches, a nesting area and areas with sandpaper for nail wear. In order to meet the demands of the foreign market and the needs of the new type of domestic consumer, it is necessary to invest in research to guarantee the health and well-being of the laying hens in the new models of facilities.
